Samurai - Organic Ceremonial Matcha

Samurai - Organic Ceremonial Matcha

Hailing from the birthplace of green tea in Japan; Obuku valley, Kyoto, where The Samurai (Japanese warriors) learned the fine art of brewing Matcha, Samurai is one of our finest, masters-grade Matcha. Superior in every way- taste, texture, and the vibrant green color found in only the highest quality and most exquisite ceremonial grade matcha teas in Japan.

Japanese monks believed matcha possessed qualities conducive to meditation and drank it during religious ceremonies. Then during the 13th century, they introduced it to Samurai warriors in Japan as a pre-battle drink for increased energy and endurance for drawn out battles.

Rich and smooth, this tea is produced from Gyokuro leaves -a name that translates as "jewel dew" in Japan. It has a light emerald color and fine texture and is one of the few remaining teas to be farmed and harvested by hand rather than mechanically. The Samurai green matcha is organic and ceremonial grade.

Ceremonial grade matcha is the highest quality grade of matcha you can get in the world, it is difficult to source as it is shade-grown and harvested from the youngest leaves of the green tea plant.

How to enjoy

Known as "chado" or "the way of tea", the Japanese tea ceremony has centered around this elegant preparation for centuries.

1. Place the sifter over the chawan (tea bowl), then use the chashaku (bamboo scoop) to add about 1-2 teaspoons (1-2 grams) of matcha to it. This helps prevent clumps and ensures the smoothest bowl possible

2. Pour 60ml / 2oz (about a quarter cup) of hot water (not boiling, about 160°F (70°C) is ideal) into the bowl

3. Whisk vigorously (about 10-20 seconds) in a zig zag motion until the tea is frothy, smooth and creamy

4. Optional: add more water to your taste preference. We usually add another quarter cup. The more you add, the lighter the flavor

5. Take your time to slowly sip and enjoy your perfect matcha moment. To your health and wellbeing!

Reseal the jar and refrigerate immediately after opening to ensure your tea remains fresh, fragrant and flavorful.

We like using our Samurai ceremonial matcha for lattes too! It yields a better taste thanks to it's high quality. We love using plant-based oat milk for matcha lattes. It is simply healthier, nutritious and gives a nice mouth feel. Just add your favorite milk (we prefer and recommend non-dairy) and a touch of sweetener if desired. Use an electric frother to mix until frothy, then pour into your mug and enjoy!

Did you know the health benefits of matcha tea exceed those of green tea because when you drink matcha you ingest the whole leaf, not just the brewed water?

Matcha is a shade-grown, all-natural, powdered Japanese green tea. Unlike other teas, Matcha undergoes a number of additional steps in the production cycle, such as shade growing, hand picking and stone grinding, before it makes its way into your cup.

The distinctive, vibrant green color of our Matcha powder and its smooth, slightly sweet taste is a result of careful growing methods, where the leaves are kept shaded and protected from the sun.
